How the worst Friday became Good

The agony of the cross was a heavy and burdensome one. For the body, the mind and the soul. It was also lonely. The crowds are against you, they want you to die. They want to see a spectacle. Jesus' enemies mocked Him, beat Him and were cruel to Him. Imagine preaching God's Kingdom and love only to face such persecution and loneliness even unto your deathbed. It is no wonder why Christ cried out, "My God, my God, Why have you forsaken me?"

The Psalmist in 42:9-10  pens his soul's depression with honesty. Something we all face. I think it is very relatable to Jesus' circumstances on that Friday.

I will say unto God my rock, "Why hast Thou forgotten me? Why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?" [10] As with a sword in my bones, mine enemies reproach me, while they say daily unto me, "Where is thy God?"

It is easy to feel like God has left us in some of our most trying moments. It takes effort and strength to say and believe what the Psalmist said in verse 11

[11] Why art thou cast down, O my soul? And why art thou disquieted within me? Hope thou in God, for I shall yet praise Him, who is the health of my countenance and my God.

For Christ, it had to be like that. He had to be, in that moment, a torn individual, seemingly overcome by enemies, forsaken, trampled, beaten and despised, even though He was innocent. He expressed His sorrow on the cross so we could know that He was forsaken so that we would not be. He paid our debt so that we could go to God knowing that we will never be alone. When we call on God, His presence and Hands will always be upon us.

For this reason we can praise God, even when our soul is depressed and we feel like our enemies are enjoying our pain. Verse 8 says,

Yet the LORD will command His lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night His song shall be with me and my prayer unto the God of my life.

Jesus had to have the worst day of His life so that we can call our worst days good.

For that we must always be grateful even in our suffering because, we who believe in Christ, will never be forsaken or forgotten by our Heavenly Father.

And that is why on a day like today we remember, how the Worst Friday became Good.

Blessings to you on this Good Friday
